Coping with Vicarious Trauma

Learning Objective

Exposure to trauma, and the development of therapeutic relationships with survivors, can impact the mental health of workers by leading them to develop the same symptoms of traumatic injuries experienced by those they help. This phenomenon is known as Vicarious Trauma (VT). The shift in world view of those with VT is characterized by a viewing the world as increasingly more threatening and less meaningful.
 
This workshop is designed to help participants recognize trauma-centered issues and offer simple and positive actions to counter their effect. Topics will include:

• Understanding VT and the measures that can be taken to reduce the impact of VT.
• ​Understanding burnout and how the symptoms may present.
• Compassion Fatigue’s symptoms and self-care strategies.​
• Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).​
