Workplace Consultant & Clinical Counsellor

Dr. Janice Stuart is a Registered Psychologist with degrees from Simon Fraser University and the University of Alberta.  With over 20 years in the field of psychology, she has extensive experience in a variety of settings including Mental Health Teams, University Counselling Centers and community agencies.  She presently divides her time between actively seeing clients in her office at 427-470 Granville St. and holding the position of Director of Training for the Counselling Program at Adler University.

 

Dr. Stuart has a strong interest in psychological health in the workplace health and has experienced firsthand the effects of both healthy and unhealthy workplace environments. Given that we spend most of our waking life at work, she believes in the strong importance of supporting psychological health in the workplace.  She enjoys contributing her strengths to help leaders make a difference through enhancing interpersonal effectiveness and in building on the strengths of individuals and groups to enhance organizational functioning. She understands that organizations flourish when their people flourish. 

 

Dr. Stuart is a member of the American Psychological Association and British Columbia Psychological Association. In terms of therapeutic focus, she works from an integrative approach using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (MBCT), and Dialectical Behavior (DBT). She sees clients presenting with anxiety, depression, trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder and interpersonal relationship difficulties. She uses a collaborative client-centered approach to help develop treatment plans that address each client’s individual uniqueness.  

 

Over the course of her career she has supervised both counselling practicum students and doctoral level interns.  She has acted in a consulting capacity to medical staff dealing with patients presenting with complex mental health issues, worked as a hospital liaison for the Ministry of Children and Family Development, and has developed groups to support the organizational functioning of counselling centers dealing with long wait lists. 

 

Dr. Stuart provides PH&S Leadership Coaching and workplace consultative services via videoconference and in Vancouver, BC.
